How do I astral project?
There are many methods that encourage your soul to leave your body. The object is to get your body relaxed enough so the soul can slip out.Clean sheets and comfortable blankets and pillows are important. Imagine trying to project in your sleep while tossing and turning; it doesn't work. Projection occurs when the physical body is not creating action. Many believe that your soul leaves through a breath and that your physical body does not breathe when you astral. How is this possible? One theory is that time is different in the astral, so in the physical realm, a minute without breathing could 'seem' like two hours in the astral realm.
Priming yourself for the experience is very helpful. Planning that you will astral in the morning and reminding yourself, as if it was a physical date you had to keep, will get you ready for the evening. Taking a hot bath or drinking hot tea or warm milk puts your body in a state of relaxation, alerting your soul that it's almost time to project.
Sleeping pills and medicinal aids will not help you to astral and will most likely prevent this. Astral projection is a balance of natural sleep and spiritual awareness (your soul is alert); you cannot get this by chemically inducing sleep.
The color purple, which is associated with magickal workings, is very helpful. Amethyst is a great stone for this and can be placed in your pillowcase or on your nightstand. Lighting purple and white candles (white to balance purple) and cleansing your bed and surroundings with sage or a cleansing incense sends the message of safety and encouragement to the soul.
Astral while in a meditative state (as opposed to sleeping) is done a bit differently. A common practice is to cast a circle and sit 'Indian style' and meditate. Meditation will relax your mind and body, creating a similiar relaxation to sleep, and encourages your soul to travel.
The most popular belief is that your soul escapes through the mouth, in one breath. So thinking "WOW! I'm doing it, I'm doing it!" will surely startle your soul back inside of you. The thought causes your heart to flutter and speed up, causing you to suck in a breath. You must remain mentally relaxed as well.
